Castrol GTX Oil for GXP?

A local well regarded GM dealer just did a oil change, tire rotation and a multi point check on my GXP (free from GM). The dealer ship used Castrol GTX. When I said the manual only said to use Mobil One, the service advisor said it didn't matter and to change it every 3 months/3000 miles.

I think I'm going to change it myself back to Mobil One. Wonder why the dealer (also sells Cadillac and Buicks) said non-synthetic was okay?

Why allow a dealer to dictate what oil to run in YOUR Solstice contrary to the owner's manual?? I don't get it...! Mobile 1 syn is recommended for the GXP...and that's what I would have insisted upon. It may not matter to him...but should to you. I suggest taking it back and having him change it,again(at no cost)..and using the oil that is clearly stated for use in your car. Then change oil every 5,000 miles...or when your on-board computer readout looks like it's near time.

Thanks for your input!

You're absolutely right...back to the dealer and insist it uses the proper oil.

GaryHam,
How did this turn out? I sure hope you did this. The turbocharger uses engine oil to lube/cool it, and regular oil will burn and turn into a heavy carbon quick which will seize up your turbo. We have to ALWAYS use synthetic. If you had a turbo problem and the dealership didn't repair it free of charge, PLUS provide you a loaner car, I think getting a lawyer after them would be in order.

Chances are, if you didn't and got the oil changed quickly, then you're okay. I'm interested in hearing how it turned out.

Thanks much,
Gary
